# Connect your agent

> Plaintext version for LLMs. Canonical HTML: https://askbowtie.com/docs/mcp/

Connect Claude, Cursor or any MCP client: the address, creating and revoking a token, what a token can read, and what to check when it does not work.

Your own AI agent can read everything Feed and Explore show, plus tools that are agent-only: funnels, scheduled reports and alerts. It connects to one address, `https://askbowtie.com/mcp`. This page is the short reference: how to connect, what a token is, how to revoke it. The longer walk-through is [Connect your site to Claude](/learn/mcp/connect-your-site-to-claude/).

Reading over MCP costs no credits. Credits are only spent when Ask writes an answer.

## Pick a way in

| Your client | How it connects |
| --- | --- |
| Claude desktop or claude.ai | Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Enter the address above, then sign in on askbowtie's consent screen and choose which sites Claude can reach. No token to paste. |
| Claude Code, Cursor, any other client | Create a token in askbowtie, then give the client the address and the token as a header. |

## Create a token

1. Open **Settings → MCP tokens** and choose **Create a token**.
2. Give it a name you will recognise, like the client it is for.
3. Choose **All my sites** or a single site. A token scoped to one site can read nothing else.
4. Copy the token now. It is shown once and we keep only a fingerprint of it.

Settings then shows the Claude Code command with your token filled in. It looks like this:

```
claude mcp add --transport http askbowtie https://askbowtie.com/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" --scope user
```

`--scope user` makes the connection yours in every project. Without it the connection stays in the folder you ran the command in. Creating a token takes the owner or admin role on the site.

## Revoke a token

In **Settings → MCP tokens**, tap a token and choose **Revoke**. Anything using it stops working at once, and you can create another. The list shows when each token was created and when it was last used, so an unused one is easy to spot.

Sign out is not revoke

"Sign out everywhere" in Account signs out your browsers only. Tokens keep working until you revoke them.

## When it does not work

| Symptom | Usually |
| --- | --- |
| The agent says it has no tools | The client never finished connecting. Restart it, then ask it to list the server's tools. |
| A new tool is missing | The client reads the tool list once, when it connects. Restart the connection to see tools added since. |
| Every answer is empty | No visits have arrived yet. Open your site, then ask again. |
| Your site is missing from the site list | The tracker line is missing your token, so the site is unverified. See [pixel troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting/). |
| A search or ads tool refuses | That Google connector is not linked. See [connect Search Console and Google Ads](/docs/connectors/). |

## What your agent can do next

- Read every metric in Explore, with the full tool list in the [tracking reference](/docs/tracking/).
- Set up [reports and alerts by email](/docs/reports/). Ask cannot do this; your agent can.
- Define funnels and read A/B test results.

What we keep about a connection: which tool ran, for which site and user, and when. We keep no transcript of your prompts or the answers.

## Add your site

Sign in with a magic link, then paste one line of code.
